Classic in the bathtub #2

Honestly, who of you was waiting for another part of classic in the bathtub? I was for sure. Every sunday I was sitting in the tub and thinking what opera or concert would be nice to introduce to you here. Well, I know, you’re not much into that and I could speak to a wall as well. Thats why I let you choose the next piece. What would you like more? Aida or The Swan Lake?

Really The Swan Lake? Are you sure? Okay! I am finding you a striking piece.

Swan Lake is by the famous russian composer Piotr Tschaikowski and premiered in 1877. It failed btw. Nobody liked it. Now telling the story.

Don’t be afraid of operas. They are very easy. The story is told really quickly. It has 4 acts and its one typical tale about love.

1st act: The birthday bash of a young prince. Prince mom tells him to finally marry a girl and find his own family. Prince son, slightly blue leaves the party. Watching some swans at the sky and decides to hunt them.

2nd act: Not far from the castle is a, no is THE swan lake. In a night, where the moon shines very bright, the prince watches a young swan girl rising from the water. He targets her with his crossbow, but the swan queen can stop him. She is telling him the following story. The beautifuk swan girl Odette, thats her name, is a bewitched princess. The cruel wizard Rotbart did it to her and she can be released if somebody loves her endlessly. Now he’s under. Totally in love and off to save her. They are both leaving the scene happy together. BUT! Rotbart watched both secretly.

3rd act: Back in the castle, the next ball is on. Now its up to Siegfried (our young prince) to choose his princess. He dances with a few ladies but all his thoughts are with the lovely Odette. They surprise, a new guest arrives. Its Baron Rotbart with an evil mirror image of Odette. Odile is as beautiful and tempting as Odette and the prince is blind and gets into the trap. He asks the black Odette for her hand in marriage and is now promising Her endless love and fidelity. Baron Rotbart and Odile are leaving the ball triumphantly, while Odettes white ghost appears above the lake. Siegfried is running to her desperately. Still with me?

4th act. Now its a bit complicated, because it has different ends. So all the swan mates are waiting at the lake for Odette to come back. She’s telling what happened to her, Siegfried reaches the lake and asks her for forgiveness. Oh sure, she is forgiving him. But then the big Baron Rotbard sends a terribly high wave to drown both and Odette gives her life to save Sigfried. Now depending on the intendants mood or whatever, there are some versions on how the story ends. Either one of them dies, or both die or both can be saved and live happy together until their ends.

Who knew about the whole story? Yes, everybody knows The Swan Lake, but nobody knows what really happens. Now go and spread your knowledge. Thats more important to know, than any of that cable tv shit.
