People who follow me on Twitter already know that I visited the Berlin Mercedes Fashion Benz Show Week (BMFBSW) yesterday. Just a few informations about that. I did not see all the shows, I only had an invitation for the HTW Berlin finals with some exam work from bachelors, diplomas and master courses plus a few works from regular semester workshops (1-4). Exiting!
I am a bit obsessed with fashion. I think I have a good basic knowledge about what’s going on, I even know the technical side a bit, but the fashion week was a big mystery for me. My lower expectations were totally satisfied, not much more beyond that. Finally its just a trade fair, not more or less. Lots of advertising and show around. A hand full of crazy fashion folk, but the rest was rather familial, friendly and quiet normal down to earth. Which is sympathetic, don’t get me wrong. But I hoped to see a bit more glitter and glamour, lady stuff. Maybe 9 am on a saturday morning is not so the right time for that. Anyway.
The show. The show was interesting, I remember me smiling at some funny pieces, I nodded when something was brilliant, innovating, wearable and just very good. That happened a few times. Models were all uhm… total beginners and probably casted right from the cafeteria entrance. Great show though, I liked it a lot.
And then luckily I was accompanied by a Prof from the fashion courses and the former dean of the design department in my funny ex-university. So I got a few background informations and also had the chance to ask stuff about the show and work. After that I decided to study fashion design in my next life. Seriously. This life for the hobby fun about it, next life for doing nothing else but that.
I already have an invite for the next Fashion Week. Remind me not to forget the camera again! Here now some more mobile bits.
